Welcome to Stepping Up To Your Potential – a podcast dedicated to personal growth and development through self-awareness and emotional intelligence! I am SO happy you’re here. See, I believe that humans are loaded with nearly limitless potential — but too often we settle for average. YOU ARE NOT AVERAGE! After all, you’re here and you got here because the idea of actually expressing even a small amount more of the vast potential that is you is one that appeals. So live boldly and step up with me! I’ll admit I haven’t figured everything out quite yet, after all life is a journey rather than a destination, but constantly finding ways to express and expand the potential that I was born with is one of the most profoundly spiritual things I can imagine. Whether your goal is to earn more on the job, create greater success for your business, or embrace all those things you’ve wanted to do but were hesitant to, I welcome you! There are several ways you can keep updated with new insights, challenges and encouragements:
You can fellow and subscribe through any of the social media options listed there, but due to increasingly selective parameters if you join email list that’s the best way to be 100% sure you get notified when a new episode goes live. Also help increase the manifested potential that our fellow humans are capable of by sharing anything you find which in some helped you. This helps me know what you found most useful so that I start giving you more of your looking for! I’d also REALLY appreciate any other love you care to send my way by sharing any posts with your friends.
Stories Guide Everything
Today I’m going to build on the ideas from the Developing Your Observer Self episode. I talked in that post about reacting the way that we do because of the stories that are going on in our heads. Another, more common way of phrasing this concept is that we react the way that we do because of our interpretation of events and actions. But what guides our interpretation? That would be our underlying story. I’ve found that most people are often completely unaware of just what those stories are, or even that they have them. Some folks...

I’ve referenced multiple times that I wanted you to pay attention to how you emotionally respond to various things and then evaluate those responses objectively. If you’ve never done that before I’d imagine that was a really challenging task. I know it was for me! I asked that of you without going into too much detail about it at the time because those were the beginning steps for what some call the Inner Observer, or the Observer Self. It’s a cultivated ability in which you can detach some small piece of your...
read moreAsk What, Instead of Why
When it comes to emotional awareness, learning to ask what purpose an action or choice served will yield more useful results than asking why we do what we do. This post explores a bit about the difference between these questions, and takes a look at the emotional responses both types are likely to evoke and how to leverage those responses for our own gain. read moreExploring Emotional Discoveries
My approach to stepping up hinges on building internal emotional intelligence. I’ve said before this takes fortitude, and it’s largely a trial and error kind of thing. I’m sharing what’s worked for me, but there’s no one-size-fits-all approach. The goal is a destination, but the journey to get there is long, varied and highly individual. The kinds of issues that you may be struggling with I may no problem with, and vice versa. That’s ok. Despite there being no set road map, I’ve laid out the path that...
read moreWorking Through Self-Doubts
Do you know what happens when you work on stepping up? Things change. Change brings with it uncertainty and new potentials. But another thing that comes up are insecurities, self-doubts, all the reasons that kept you from stepping up in the first place. I am definitely no exception. I’ve been hitting wall after wall as I struggle to keep momentum going. Not for lack of things that I’ve learned. Oh heck no. I’ve had an anonymous blog for several years full of data that I’m mining and expanding on. The problem is that...
read moreEgo: Just a Sense of Self
I was having lunch with a friend recently. Somehow or other we got onto the topic of egos, and she immediately said egos are a bad thing. Sadly, this is a very common idea. Wishing to know exactly what she was thinking, I asked why she thought such a thing. It is noteworthy that she was so taken aback by the question that she stared at me for a good 15 seconds before answering. I find that this is typical when someone is asked to examine a belief they’ve never really thought about before. As a note, watch for this in yourself –...
read moreThe No Nots Game
There’s a game I’ve learned to play which I have found immensely helpful. It originally came from Miles Robinson over at Living. He calls it the No Nots game, and I’ve taught it to several of my friends when their negative self-talk was getting to me. Essentially, the game is simple and yet it’s surprisingly, wonderfully challenging. I’ve learned that it works best to start the game and brain-training with writing, then as your skill improves you can take the game into your speech and ultimately thinking. Before...

read moreWhy A Budget Didn’t Work For Me
After I had been tracking my expenses for a while, I decided to start creating budgets. That’s what you did, right? Every book I had said so. My thinking was that I could use the budget to help me curtail some of the extra spending I wanted to cut down on. Bear in mind that the bills, such a rent and phone and electricity etc, as well as the savings goals such as retirement and investments were all rather stable, accurate and fully funded. Where I was overspending and attempting to use the budget as a correction tool was in the...
